Types of Operating Systems

• Real Time Operating Systems - Used to control machinery, scientific instruments and industrial systems.

• Single User, Single Task - Used to manage the computer so that one user can effectively do one thing at a time.

• Signle User, Multi Tasking - This is the most common type of operating system used on Desktops and Laptops. An example is microsoft windows which lets the user access many different more than one program at once.

• Multi User -  Allows many people to access a computer at the same time and use different programs.
